Satriani is an amazing player, but Beck can take a piece of music, and find the 
music in it, turn it around and make you hear it in a way that's new, without 
seeking to impress... or, you could say, with a great musician, it's the music 
that gets heard, with really brilliant musicians, such as Satriani, there is a 
parity between the music and the playing, which conceals the fact that the music 
isn't there to the same extent.

That said, I imagine if Satriani was to sit down and play some quiet acoustic 
guitar piece, then, the music would shine through.

With Beck, listen to the dynamics. He is perhaps the best, at making a guitar 
sing beautifully, for the music, not for anything else.

Like Miles Davis, perhaps. Plenty could play better than Miles.
