Talking of distortion..

The Dong EMAIL HIDDEN

I _finally_ pieced together a Marshall 18 Watt head clone, 90% of the
parts of which (2x EL84, one a Mullard, Output and nice power tranny, a
nice Mallory 2x50uF 500v cap, a Sylvania EZ81 rectifier, various other
bits) from an old projector amplifier I sniped on ebay for less than £20
yonks ago.
I have a few Mullard 12ax7's and various russian equiv's for the pre
bits and modified the heaters for 6 or 12v series/parallel so they can
be swapped around.

It's on a brass plate with turret and tag and still needs a full chassis
and, of course, the deep red leather and gold grill head cab to be made.
I may even use up some red EL wire inside to make it glow...

Fired up just an hour ago with a lonely little sacrificial driver (just
about killed it, not quite) and it's bright, clean and LOUD AS HELL.
Can't turn the volume up past about 1..
I thought I might have problems with hum due to the rectifier sharing
with other tube heaters, but it seems ok.
Quick tweak to lower the voltage from about 380v (!A bit much for EL84!)
to ~340v with the tube rectifier limit resistor. Damn. I can tell this
one needs a master volume mod even before plugging in a real speaker...

I would show a picture of the wiring, but it is not that pretty ;)
The chassis shall be wood with the front and back panels from perspex
with gfx double sided taped on the reverse for details, I hope.
