That audio sample is from the Bareille version.  I don't think the original
parts version is much different sounding.  It is a little smoother but I
didn't think it was worth the effort to run down the original parts plus
have spares around.  I certainly wouldn't want it as my only filter.  I have
many other filters that get way more use but when I want distorted or
gritted up processing, the polivoks gets the nod.

I'm glad you like JH Living VCOs.  I have a pair of PCBs heading my way...

Did you built them with the original IC's/transistor?
I built the Marc Bareille version and I've only used it once. It was the
most crappy filter ever used...
I got the original parts from a Russian guy some years back, I really should
update that module. 
But I don't think it will add something 'impressive' to my modular though...
(As my living VCO does)

There are also pretty simple to build as they have incredibly 
few parts. The only downside is that this means things like 
precision, tracking, etc. are non-existant.  However, she 
screams big time.  I love them for processing, this and their 
easy build accounts for the significant number of them laying 
around the studio.
