Artists vs iTunes

An interesting article in the Telegraph today, discussing the trade
off between selling on iTunes (and losing revenue because most people
only buy the 1 hit track from your album) or not releasing on iTunes
and recouping the lost revenue through the higher profit on full-album
purchases. It seems that not being on iTunes pays if you are big
enough. AC/DC and Kid Rock will have 2 of the top selling albums of
the year without iTunes, while Katy Perry (who is on iTunes) is seeing
2.2million iTunes sales of her hit single translate into just 282,000
album sales.
