Acer is of the type TN and the NEC is a S-PVA. All cheap ones are TN.

I've been looking this up for a while, considering a purchase myself. 
LG's new W2600HP looks nice. It uses a S-IPS screen, which is the same 
tech that Apple uses. It's down to around 600 euro in Sweden.
