Well, it's a mixed bag IMHO. Basic things are fine (e.g. everything your 
GP can handle), but once you need a specialist you're in deep trouble. 
Waiting several months to get a bad knee even diagnosed, and then wait 
another year until you get the joint replaced means 1.5 years in agony 
and - which is worse - your joint is totally ruined by the time you get 
proper treatment, meaning you need even more complex (and hence 
expensive) surgery. That's just one example I know first hand.

It's always a balance between just pushing more money into it vs. trying 
to make it more efficient. NHS, IMHO, needs both.
