Hey dude, that sucks..

I can understand the FX being as the day you make the transfer - makes
sense.  And unfortunately, nothing you described is any different to how I
would imagine it to work and indeed, how it works for every domestic type FX
transaction.

Commission free = crap FX rate
Good FX rate = pay commission

How do you want to be bum loved?  Either way, you are going to assume the
position..
