I would say NYC is bike friendly. We have wonderful greenways along
the coasts of the island as well as clear routes through the streets,
every day it seems like I see a new bike lane painted in a new area.
That's not to say it's not dangerous to a certain extent. When riding
alone I tend to ride everywhere, not paying much attention to where
the paths are, but I use'em if I see'em. You just have to be hyper
aware of what's going on, like opening car doors, drunk people and
don't take no sh*t from cabbies who turn into you ;P

Seriously though if I was the mayor I would make a major initiative to
get more people transporting themselves on bikes. It would do so much
for the city.
