Let me put it this way, Martin (asking the experienced photographer):
When you're on vacation, or at last far from home - how do you decide  
what parts of your set to take with you?

for Nikon the Sigma is ?409 best price while the original 18-200 VR is  
?579.
Depends where each lense has it strengths or weak points.
