Hey - definitions are only bits and bytes, and in this case, reflecting 
an idea from a very narrow view, not intending to replace your view :)

The lights out model is just an idea. Sure - entire genres of music 
would not exist if all musical instruments had to be operable in the dark...

My point is that, intuition is guided quickly by muscle memory, and 
performance aided by tactile reference to a learned physical space.

That this much may aid improvements to computer-music technologies I 
would have thought is a positive suggestion!

When a mouse is involved, then a layer of mental 
abstraction/interference is created. 99% of the time, the trade off is 
immensely positive. Nevertheless, I remember what is lost. In certain 
kinds of music making (not all), flow becomes impossible.

If computer-music could embrace the infinite subtleties of improvisation 
and performance found in the physical realm, then, somthing interesting 
would happen. A lot of research is done in this area. I mention the 
lights out idea, because this is perhaps another way of viewing the 
difference.
