Slan I've read, a long time ago and perhaps in Dutch. The other one is 
new for me.

One author of science fiction and fantasy (although he doesn't like to 
be classified as such) I particularly like is Jack Vance. He has a 
unique style of writing, and a vocabulary that you can shake a stick at. 
And the science fiction and fantasy are merely an excuse to set his 
favourite theme: a stratified society, to the point of being silly, and 
the lone protagonist who rebels against it.

Terry Pratchett is fun to read, too, but now it remains to be seen how 
many more books he can write, since he's been diagnosed with a rare form 
of Alzheimer's...
